The Nissan Leaf won the 2011 World Car of the Year at the The New York International auto show. The electric car beat out the other two finalists for the World Car title: the Audi A8 and BMW 5-
series. The Leaf was the first electric car to win the award.
According to an unnamed World Car juror, this 5-seater hatchback is the world’s first purpose build and mass-produced car. It generates 108hp, 8 hour battery charge using 220–240v power supply, and produce zero tailpipe emissions. Nissan claims it has a range of over 100 miles on a full charge. It feels just like a normal car, only quieter.
This award is now in it’s 7th year, previously mainly compact car crowned.
